    Selected Paper Proposals

    Proposals on any aspect of agricultural or resource economics, including teaching, research, and/or extension are encouraged.

    Registration and Membership Requirements: At least one author must be a member of WAEA or CAES, and the author making the presentation at the Meeting must be a member of WAEA or CAES and be registered for the Annual Meeting. Each member may be the primary/presenting/contact author on only one submitted abstract, but there are no limits to co-authorship on other abstracts submitted by other individuals. Papers should be original and not submitted elsewhere for presentation.

    Submission Guidelines: Proposals must be submitted electronically through a joint online submission (https://editorialexpress.com/caeswaea2016). The two-page proposal must be submitted in PDF format.

    Submission Information: Submission information of Title of Proposal, Topic code (see list below) and Author(s) Name(s), Affiliation, Mailing Address, Telephone numbers, and Email address will be solicited through an online form linked to either the WAEA's or CAES's website. Student's please note whether your paper should be included in the Graduate paper competition (for more information about the competition see below).

    Topic Codes: Please indicate the two-digit topic area code on the title page that matches the paper's contribution most closely. This will determine who reviews the paper.

    Proposal: Must be uploaded as a PDF file, two pages or less in length with double spacing, one-inch margins on all sides, and 12 pitch font. Do not list author names. A suggested format is:

    • Title
    • Problem Statement
    • Objectives
    • Data and Methods
    • Results or expected results and their implications

    Selection: Selection will be based on input from blind peer reviews. Authors will be advised on the status of their proposal(s) by the middle of April 2016.

    Organized Symposia Proposals

    Organized Symposia sessions consist of three or four papers on a specific area that is of interest to agricultural (and related) economists. Organized Symposia may involve panel discussions of prepared questions, debates, roundtable meetings, or other formats. Groups may submit CAES-specific or CAES-WAEA joint proposals. CAES-specific proposals should focus on Canadian issues, but all topics will be considered.

    Registration and Membership Requirements: At least one author must be a member of CAES, and the author making the presentation at the Meeting must be a member of CAES and be registered for the Annual Meeting. Papers should be original and not submitted elsewhere for presentation.

    Submission Guidelines: Proposals should be emailed in PDF format to CAES President Derek Brewin, .

    Submission Information: Submission information of Title of Proposal, Authors Names, Affiliations, Mailing Addresses, Telephone numbers, and Email address must be submitted with the proposals.

    Proposal: Must not exceed 1000 words and be submitted as a PDF file, with double spacing, one-inch margins on all sides, and 12 pitch font. The format is open and may involve panel discussions of prepared questions, debates, roundtable meetings, or other formats.     Selection: A committee headed by the CAES President will evaluate CAES-specific proposals while both the CAES and WAEA Presidents will evaluate joint proposals. Final selection of proposals will be based on:

    • a clearly worded rationale for their proposed organized symposium, and
    • a short description of each paper (i.e., title, authors, author contact information and a brief abstract)

    Authors will be advised on the status of their proposal(s) by the middle of April 2016.

    Graduate Student Competition:

    As a part of the selected papers process, the WAEA and CAES want to particularly encourage the submission of quality papers by graduate students. To this end, the WAEA/CAES are sponsoring a contest for the outstanding selected papers submitted by graduate students. To be eligible for this competition, a student must:

    1. Be the lead author on the selected paper;
    2. Indicate in the submission process that the paper is to be considered in the competition;
    3. Be a member of WAEA or CAES as of February 15, 2016, and
    4. Present the paper in person at the joint WAEA and CAES meetings in Victoria in June 2016.

    The authors of the top three papers will receive cash rewards of $500, $250, and $100. The top paper will also be published in the JARE.
