Call for Papers

The 2009 Canadian Agricultural Economics Society (CAES) Annual Meeting will be held jointly with the Canadian Economics Association (CEA) at the University of Toronto. Conference dates are Friday, May 29 through Saturday, May 30, with the CAES Executive Meetings being held Thursday, May 28 and Sunday, May 31, 2009.

The CAES invites anyone wishing to present a paper at the 2009 Annual Meeting to submit an abstract by Thursday, January 15, 2009.

Types of Submissions

There will be two types of sessions at the meetings: selected papers and organized symposia. Abstracts for selected papers must be submitted using the CAES online submission system. Proposals and papers for organized symposia are to be sent in Word or PDF format directly to CAES president Lars Brink at: . Submissions for both selected papers and organized symposia are due January 15, 2009.

Selected Papers

Abstracts are to be submitted using the CAES Online Submission System and must not exceed 500 words. Submissions may be made in either English or French. Please click on the "Submit a Paper" link and follow the instructions. Submissions are due January 15, 2009.

The Program Committee will evaluate submissions for selected paper presentations based on a clearly defined research problem, the method of analysis and the potential contribution(s) of the research findings. Submitters of selected paper abstracts will be notified by the March 31, 2009 as to whether their paper has been accepted or rejected for presentation.

Organized Symposia

Organized Symposia sessions provide an opportunity for CAES members to marshal a group of three or four papers on a specific area that is of interest to the membership. Organized Symposia may involve panel discussions of prepared questions, debates, roundtable meetings, or other formats. Groups are encouraged to integrate CEA members and focus on Canadian issues, but all topics will be considered. Proposals for organized symposia must not exceed 1000 words. Please send your proposal in Word or PDF format directly to CAES president Lars Brink at: by January 15, 2009.

A committee headed by the CAES President will evaluate proposals submitted for an organized symposium based on: [1] a clearly worded rationale for their proposed organized symposium, and [2] a short description of each paper (i.e., title, authors, author contact information and a brief abstract). Submitters of organized symposia will be notified by the March 31, 2009 as to whether their proposal has been accepted or rejected.
